What is a Next Step group?
A Next Step group is a group of 6-12 individuals who meet in someone’s home for the purpose of developing meaningful relationships, studying God’s Word, praying, serving together and caring for one another. Groups are for adults of all ages, stages of life, and spiritual maturity. Most groups form in the same geographical locations.
What kinds of small groups are there?
- Mixed – small groups comprised of single individuals and married couples of varying ages.
- Singles – small groups comprised of single adults, either all men or all women or co-ed in the same age range.
- Married Couples – small groups comprised of married couples in the same stage of life (couples without children, with children, and empty nesters and who live in the same geographical area.
- Young Adults – small groups comprised of twenty something’s, young men and women.
- Women – small groups comprised of women of any age and stage of life (single, married, divorced and widowed). They have the option of meeting in the daytime or evening.
- Men – small groups comprised of men of any age and stage of life who may meet early morning or evening.
- Explore – small group of individuals of any age and stage of life who want to explore the experience of being a part of a small group for a 6-week session.
Are there co-ed groups?
Yes, the Explore, Young Adults, Couples, Mixed, Singles groups can be comprised of both men and women.
Is childcare provided for each group meeting?
Next Step groups with children provide their own childcare, either by each member donating to pay for a babysitter, the parent(s) get a babysitter on their own, or members of the group rotate childcare at meetings.
When and where do groups meet?
Next Step groups normally meet at least twice a month in a group member’s home in communities around Christian Life Center. Most groups meet on a regular twice a month schedule September through May. During the summer months, groups can opt to break or only meet once a month for more social activities. Half of the groups meet on Sunday evenings, the remaining half on various nights of the week.
How long does a Next Step group last?
Next Step groups exist as long as the group members want to stay together. Explore groups form for a short-term period of 6-weeks; after the six sessions, members can decide if they want to continue as a small group. We have some groups who have been together for several years.
How long does each group meeting last?
Each Next Step group chooses the length of time they want to meet. However, most groups meet for
1 ½-2 hours.
What goes on at a group meeting?
Next Step groups can differ in how they structure their time. However, most groups start with a social time to connect, have snacks or a meal together, and then transition to prayer, discussion of a topical study or book of the Bible, take prayer requests and close in prayer. Group members generally decide on the structure of their group. We believe groups should be relational, grow spiritually and learn to apply God’s Word to their life.
What do groups study?
CLC provides two to three recommended studies quarterly. However, each Next Step group chooses curriculum based on what the members decide to study. They can also refer to our expanded list of resources in our Resource Library and order through the CLC bookstore.
How do I join a small group?
Click on Join a Group or visit the Welcome Center and complete the Group Interest form with your contact information and preferences. The Next Step Group Coordinator will contact you to find out more about you and discuss your options.
